Plant Performance Testing
Thorndon Cook has the engineering capability to design and witness plant performance testing in accordance with international standards to ensure plant performance guarantees are fulfilled. Thorndon Cook will design or review the performance test procedure, witness the testing to ensure compliance with the procedure, and then check that the calculations for output and uncertainty are in accordance with the prevailing standard. The main focus for this testing is geothermal and gas turbine-based power plant, however it can be extended to general power plant equipment such as cooling towers, boilers and condensers.
A Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) study is a formal procedure used during design or design review to identify and mitigate any risks to personnel and equipment. A HAZOP follows a strictly defined technique and is team-based with a nominated leader who ensures the correct processes are followed. A HAZOP facilitator has to have a broad engineering knowledge and good experience and understanding in design and safety aspects. The facilitator must also be able to lead the team to ensure correct outcomes are achieved. Thorndon Cook has an experienced HAZOP facilitator who is available as required to support the formal design process.
Root Cause Analysis
Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is an approach used to determine the factors or reason for a specific problem. In engineering it is most commonly used to investigate the reason for an unplanned event or failure. There are many approaches to RCA and Thorndon Cook has had direct experience with the most commonly used procedures. Thorndon Cook has engineers who have successfully participated in several RCA investigations involving complex failures. We have the expertise to participate in an RCA team as an independent expert and also as team facilitator to make sure the right outcomes are achieved even when many different interested parties are involved.
