The Project
Thorndon Cook Power Staff were engaged by Pertamina Geothermal (PGE) to provide specialised training to its new graduates and more experienced staff as part of its ambitious development program in Indonesia.
Our Role
Thorndon Cook Staff prepared and delivered a capacity building and training program to Pertamina Geothermal in cooperation with the Institute of earth Science and Engineering (IESE) from Auckland University, covering:
- Phase 1: preparation of tuition supports and delivery of an introductory training session covering project development, feasibility, risks, economics, conversion technologies and introduction to steamfield, power plant and BOP engineering (total of 8 modules, given in alternation with 8 geoscientific modules by IESE – Auckland Uniservices).
- Phase 2: delivery of advanced sessions covering project development strategy, drilling and EPC planning, contracting and scheduling, feasibility, risks, economics and financial modelling, PPA Contracts, O&M (total 20 modules for project development and engineering and 16 sessions covering geoscientific exploration, investigation techniques, data gathering and interpretation, reservoir models and capacity assessment, make up well drilling strategy etc), a condition assessment of the existing and future infrastructures including steamfield above ground system (SAGS) and power station, assessment of the future upgrades and rehabilitations for Units 1 and 2 and Capex and Opex estimates for Units 3 and 4.
Results
During 2013, Thorndon Cook Staff participated in the preparation and presentation of multiple training sessions to about 30 PGE staff, delivered in two separate phases:
- Phase 1: a one week introductory training program for new graduate staff at Bandung – Indonesia
- Phase 2: a two week advanced training program for more experience staff at Bandung — Indonesia
The training sessions were interactive and included a site visit to Kamojang Power Station on the last day as well as quizzes and final evaluation for all participants.
