Avion OCGT power plant - Philippines
Avion power plant consists of 2 x LM6000PC open cycle gas turbines used to supply peaking power. TCP was asked to provide the lead mechanical engineer during the final stages of construction and commissioning.
The role was extended during the period on-site to include overall responsibility for commissioning.

Changi Airport Generation - Singapore
Feasibility study for the development of an embedded power generation and chilled water facility at Changi airport. The demand for power and cooling is expected to grow significantly as the airport expands and opens a fifth terminal. The overall aim was for the airport to have the in-house capability of generating all the power and all of the chilled cooling water needed within the airport complex.
The preference was to locate the power plant within the airport site and this introduced the need to include an assessment of the legal and practical constraints of constructing and operating a power plant of significant capacity within the boundary of an active airfield.
The Technology study covered several options and from a technical perspective the best solution was a medium sized combined cycle power plant augmented by several smaller power plants using reciprocating gas engines. The power plant configuration was optimised to enable chilled water production using a combination of heat absorption and electric chillers.

Doniambo Coal Plant LE - New Caledonia
The end client is SLN (nickel company of New Caledonia). Parsons Brinckerhoff is the lead consultant, in charge of Environmental and Technical reviews. Phase 1 of TCP assignment includes an initial site visit and the technical review of project contracts (EPC contract, PPA, all permits licences etc). Phase 2 will cover the construction and commissioning of the 180 MW plant and Phase 3 the Operation and maintenance during Defect Liability Period.

Sumsel V, 2 x 150 MW CFB Coal Fired Power Station - Indonesia
Thorndon Cook was engaged to review the performance test procedure for the power plant and witness and verify the performance tests for both Units on site.
The performance test was undertaken in accordance with ASME PTC-4, PTC-6 and PTC-46.Thorndon Cook staff involved in this project:
Carwarp Bioenergy Power Plant - Australia
The project consisted of a 35.4 MW gross power plant utilising a boiler / steam turbine generator, following the rankine cycle, and fuelled with biomass from agricultural residues in the form of almond shells and hulls, and spent grape marc. Thorndon Cook staff were involved to provide design engineering services through FEED and feasibility stages, preparation of documents for statutory approval and design specifications and evaluation of bids for the construction company through the epc bid phase.

PLP CCGT Power Plant - Singapore
PacificLight Power Pte Ltd (PLP) have recently constructed an 800 MW combined cycle power plant located on Jurong Island in Singapore. The plant consists of 2 x 400 MW units with each comprising an SGT5-4000F gas turbine and an SST5-5000 steam turbine. This plant is the first in Singapore to be designed to run on any combination of liquefied natural gas, normal pipeline natural gas and liquid fuel. PB was Owners Engineer for this project and represented the Owner through all stages of development from inception to completion. Thorndon Cook staff were part of the Owners Engineer site team and had specific responsibility for ensuring the acceptance testing of both units was carried out in accordance with the agreed procedures for plant performance, environmental emissions and noise.

KEPCO Cebu Unit 2 I/LP Steam Turbine, Root Investigation of Rotor Bow - Philippines
The Cebu Power Plant is a 2 x 103 MW nominal coal fired electricity generating station. The turbine manufacturer is Fuji Electric. The turbine was manufactured in Kawasaki, Japan. The turbine design is based on a design originally licensed from Siemens. Thorndon Cook Power staff was engaged by Crawford & Co (Manila) to carry out a root cause analysis of the turbine rotor bow failure.Thorndon Cook staff involved in this project:
Condamine Power Station - Australia
The Condamine Power Station is a 140 MW combined-cycle plant consisting of two Siemens SGT-800 gas turbines, two supplementary-fired single-pressure heat recovery steam generators, and a Siemens SST-400 steam turbine. The plant is the first combined power station in the world to be fired using untreated coal seam gas and the first in Australia to use water, obtained from coal seam methane gas production, in the evaporative cooling tower of a combined-cycle gas-fired power station. The water, with its high salinity, was previously considered a waste product. Thorndon Cook staff were involved as Owner’s Engineer for the Queensland Gas Company (QGC) through all stages of the Condamine Power Station project from initial feasibility studies right through to final commissioning.
